I was only a couple of days into my new job in Poornam. Just like any other fresher, I was very nervous when I got stuck in a bug . I tried all arrows in my quiver and finally decided to consult with my team lead. My team lead was a lady by the name, Lachu.


I stood two steps behind her chair and waited for attention . Sensing someone behind her, she turned her chair and with a questioning face asked “yes ? Honey....!! ”

I woke up from bed only 5 minutes back and it takes me atleast half an hour to boot-up ( as in computers ) after a good sleep. Dad had summoned me for repairing his laptop and I didn't see that it was a well hidden bait which he knew I'll bite on. I was still wondering how to remove the software FireStarter from Ubuntu, when dad gave that well hidden jab. And to be frank, I took the entire blow on my face. I was startled and silence ensued.

Uncle was the one who started , “ Aah , nee vanno ?” ( Oh , you back ? )


“Yes. Last week”, I replied gearing up for the shower of questions about conference and places I visited.


“appol, paper upayogikkan padichu alle ?” ( So, you learned how to use paper , eh ? )


That was not the question I was expecting , so it took me sometime to grasp what he meant. The pride on my face turned to an “embarrassed smile” , when it dawned on me that uncle was referring to “Tissue Paper”. Of all the questions possible , he was only curious about how I went to toilet.

]]> frontpage Tue, 22 Sep 2009 01:44:05 +0000 News Round up of past few months. http://www.sojish.com/topics-mainmenu-31/66-its-my-life/352-news-round-up-of-past-few-months.html It all started in the first week of May .  I went with few of my friends for "Thrissur Pooram" .  It was not my first time , but it was the first fully planned trip.  I  wanted to know why people go into a trance , when listening to "ilanjithara melam" .  The 'melam'  was to start only at 2:30 pm but we reached the spot by 12 in the noon. That helped us in finding a spot nearest to the orchestra , yet under the shades to escape the sweltering heat of the summer sun.  But soon the spot, actually meant for 5 people to stand , was getting crammed up. In no time , the heat and humidity  won the battle with my linen shirt.   I was sweating from all pores , that someone could have easily misunderstood me for a washed shirt left to dry in the open. Arun, my healthier friend, was definitely a water sprinkler in Subash park.  It was that bad .

I always had a hatred towards sales & marketing. As an engineering student I always visualised myself as the geeky developer sitting in a corner cubicle , releasing new softwares on daily basis. It never happened. Instead I fell in love with the then dark side of software engineering, which is also called as administration. After seven years I got enlightened. Life is all about "sales and marketing". Whether consciously or unconsciously everyone does Marketing and Sales.

Look back at your life. The day when you told your dad, "Papa,  see what I've made today". The day when you lifted your hand in the school when the teacher asked if anyone knows the answer. The day when you sat infront of the interview board. The day when you smiled at that person of opposite sex. The day when you completed the project before deadline . What were you thinking? Try playing all these down, but the fact is you-were-marketing. And whenever you were successful, treat that as a deal closed.

I was actually looking for some lonely time with myself. I was down and desp for two reasons. First reason was that its 2am on valentine's day and I am yet to find a valentine. Second reason, which was the worst one,  was that the only person who wished me "Happy Valentine's day"  till then was Chakky ( For ignorant ones, the sweet name 'chakky' does not belong to any gal. Its the pet name of Lijoe and Lijoe is a guy in my team. You heard me right, a guy .. A GUY !!!  ) .

So there I was, sitting in a corner of food court, lifting and dipping the tea bag into the cup. I choose Food court to clear my worries , coz it would always be brimming with positive energy. Somebody playing TT , or a gang of friends chit-chatting.  Strangely , this night was different. It was all empty and perfectly silent and calm,  that is until Sijin came.

I lost my mobile, and got it back within 12 hours thanks to a good samaritan ( His name is Sony and he is from Vaikom).  Poor guy called a colleague of mine and informed about the lost mobile. I was shocked to realise that my phone was missing . But what was even more shocking was the realisation that I lost it  almost 5 hours back, and I was not even aware of it. Well , I should not be blamed for being careless. I hate my mobile phone as much as I hate the messages and phone calls that comes in.
